Vor diesem Hintergrund kommt dem engen Zusammenhang zwischen Bildungserfolg und sozialer Herkunft eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Es stellt sich die zentrale Frage, mit welchen Mechanismen die soziale Ungleichheit trotz einer breiteren Teilhabe an Bildung durch die Bildungsverläufe reproduziert wird.
In der vorliegenden Arbeit soll die Hypothese überprüft werden, dass die frühkindliche Sozialisation in der Familie und die unbewusste Selektivität der Lehrer entsprechend des Habituskonzepts von Pierre Bourdieu einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Erklärung der „sozialen Vererbung“ von Bildungserfolgen im heutigen Deutschland leisten können. Als zentrales challenge bzgl. des engen Zusammenhangs zwischen Bildungserfolg und sozialer Herkunft wird dabei die frühe Selektion im deutschen Bildungssystem herausgearbeitet. Um diese Hypothese zu überprüfen werden im Folgenden zunächst die Probleme der sozialen Selektivität des Bildungssystems herausgearbeitet werden. Anschließend wird das Habituskonzept Bourdieus vorgestellt werden. Daraufhin soll anhand der drei PISA-Studien überprüft werden, inwieweit das Habituskonzept dazu beitragen kann, die Selektivität des deutschen Bildungssystems zu erklären. Dabei wird deutlich, dass die frühkindliche Sozialisation in der Familie und die un-bewussten Habituserwartungen der Lehrer als Erklärung für die Kontinuität von Bildungsbenachteiligung herangezogen werden können
